Prospective Member Information

Dear Prospective Member of Corinthian Yacht Club:

Thank you for expressing an interest in the Corinthian Yacht Club (CYC). This package will help familiarize you with our Club facilities, activities, and fees. In addition, we hope to explain the membership process and advantages of membership in CYC.

The Corinthian Yacht Club was founded in 1903 in Washington, DC by nineteen “boys” who were interested in sailing, rowing, canoeing, or any pastime that would cause them to spend a few hours on the water. Over the past 122 years, CYC has thrived and relocated from Washington, DC to Ridge, Maryland on Jutland Creek. We are just off the Potomac River, a few miles south of St. Mary’s City, and approximately seven miles from Point Lookout, where the Potomac River joins the Chesapeake Bay. The majority of our members are power boaters; however, we enjoy a mix of boating styles and continue to share our love for spending time on the water.

Most of our members joined CYC to enjoy the 20-plus acres of serene waterfront property, the clubhouse, pool, boat ramp, covered slips, and, as an added bonus, rooms and cottages for rent. However, the real attraction is our members—their camaraderie and genuine care for each other. Many members take vacations or cruises together year-round.

Should you decide to apply for membership, please complete the enclosed Application Form, attach a check for the appropriate amount, and submit it to the Secretary for processing (mail or email is acceptable). Our email address is cycsignals@gmail.com. The application, in addition to your information and references, requires signatures from two active club members before processing can begin. These members will become your sponsors at CYC and will facilitate introductions to Board of Trustees members and other members around the Club, helping you acclimate to the facility. The completed application is processed by the Club Secretary and includes posting your application to inform current members, a reference check, and a Board vote. We also invite you to attend one of our events, free of charge, to get to know our members and experience Corinthian hospitality firsthand.

Once you are notified of your acceptance, you will be asked to attend the next regular monthly membership meeting, where you will be introduced to Club members and presented with your Club burgee, directory, name tags, dock locker label (if you have a boat in a slip), and lapel pin.
